Installing solar garden lights can save you money

If you are looking to install outdoor lighting why not try Solar garden lights? Outdoor lighting powered by rechargeable batteries that get recharged by the sun during the day can benefit you in many ways.

Here are some of the obvious pros to using rechargeable solar garden lighting.

First and foremost they use no electricity from your home, that puts them high on the green meter.

Second, set up is a breeze. Kind of like that guy on TV with the oven, "You just set it and forget it." When you take them out of the box you don't have any wires or transformers to deal with, did you even know that there would be a transformer. Oh yeah I can speak from experience, it wasn't exactly a piece of cake. I have a background in aircraft components, wiring install and navigation and communication. I handled it just fine but if you don't know what a transformer is you may want to go with the solar lighting.

Third, with the wired lights I had to replace the bulbs way more often than I thought I would, the outdoor solar lighting on the other hand generally uses fluorescent or LED's that stands for Light Emitting Diodes. These are super efficient lights and you have them in all your appliances and alarm clocks. They also last much longer than incandescent light bulbs some LED's last more than 100,000 hours!

Fourth, there is no problem setting them up by water, enough said.

Fifth will take us back to the beginning, you are not using any electricity from your home so they light the specified area for practically nothing.

How about some cons, and there are

First, the brightness of the LED solar lights are not indicated in terms of watts. The measurement of it is mcd (mill candelas candle light). I would definitely keep an eye on the mcd rating; if you go cheap it may look cheap and dim. Look for lights that operate from 8000-12000mcd. Solar lighting has become much more reliable and efficient over the years so just look at the fine print first.

Second, if they don't get enough sun they won't work as long. Obvious but it should be noted. It will depend on what reason you are getting these lights for. If you need the lights on all night for security reasons I would go with regular lights. If they are simply for accents to make the house look pretty from 8pm-12am, do us all a favor an get the solar lights.

Third, over time you may need to turn the solar power unit off for three or four days to deep cycle the batteries. Also after time you may need to replace the rechargeable batteries which is easy and the batteries can be bought about anywhere.
