Are Hybrid cars really that good for the environment?

Well you may think that is a crazy question to ask but with hybrid cars and trucks being the craze I'm going against the grain and asking you to ponder the thought for awhile...

Please keep in mind that I'm not writing this because I think hybrids are a bad idea, just don't think it is the cure all to our problems and are getting pimped out as if they a so wonderful, come on people wake up!

This only popped into my head because I drive a 1992 Toyota pickup, it is not even really a truck it is like a small car with a truck bed attached to the back. It has over 125,000 miles and runs great but I would like a new car.

Put yourself in my shoes, or maybe you are there yourself. If I bought a hybrid car like the Toyota Prius that is stated to get 55 mpg Ackhum Bull****, at a cost of 20,000 dollar for the base would you or I be doing the environment any favors?

My little truck/car gets at least 30mpg a lot more if the government ran a test on it. The question is; how green is it if you have to scrap one piece of metal and parts for another that had to be built?

If you drove your less efficient car or truck around would it not in theory be more efficient as a whole? If we didn't build as many cars and trucks wouldn't that be better than digging into the earth for more metal, using more plastic?

Look at a lot of the hybrid cars out there, many of them don't get all that great of mileage

So make your own choice but I most definitely will drive the wheels off my car/truck. Goes to show you that even if something doesn't look very green it might be the painter was just color blind. Let me know what you think.

If anything you could hold off buying that 20,000 dollar car and the money you would save on interest could go towards raising money to get us off the grid. O.K. how about a dollar???
