What to look for when buy an outside Energy Star Air Conditioner unit.
You will need to know a qualified ENERGY STAR air conditioner has a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) than standard models, which makes them about 14% more efficient than standard models.
It is the (SEER) rating that you want to look at, the higher the number the more efficient the unit. We also have a budget to look at too and the higher the rating usually means a higher price tag up front but remember you will also save more every time that thing is running so don’t be cheap just to pinch a few pennies here without realizing it will be costing you hundreds and maybe thousands in the long run.
You can find search tools on the web that compares different models and manufactures ratings but personally I plan on getting a quote from three individual contractors, compare the information they give me and make my decision.
A good place to find quality contractors is at this link
Click Here to find someone that is qualified to install your energy star air conditioner.
Type in your zip code check the appropriate boxes and viola a list of contractors.
Take it a step further and click on the “view details” link next to the name of the contractor. Look at their “Work Performed” section. Some will have Energy Management listed; those would be the one’s I call first.
Call a few and tell them you want an Energy Star Air Conditioner unit. Try to stay close on the different SEER ratings from one contractor to the next, maybe asking for a few different quotes from each contractor.
Research and compare.
If you like one model over the next, let’s just say one contractor has model A at SEER rating 21 and the other contractor has model B at SEER rating 21. But after you have done your research on the different models and you prefer A over B only the price is way different from one contractor to the other, A is way more than B. Just ask that contractor if he/she can match that others price, and tell them why, you may be able to get them to bring that price down some.
Do research on the different models, and if you have recently purchased one let us know how its doing.
